Double R Ranch and Kennel is located in the picturesque Shawnee National Forest of Southern Illinois. We are a family owned and operated business of three generations. My husband John and myself, our grown son Jake and his lovely wife Angie, and our beautiful granddaughters Aimee and Emma. We used to be a Mom and Pop outfit, now we are a Granny and Papaw business, howbeit a very young Granny and Papaw! We were introduced to the Mini Aussies about 4 years ago, and they have totally captured our hearts, they have become a passion of ours. We were looking for a breed of dog to raise that was beautiful to look at, intelligent to deal with, a hearty dog without many health problems, one with a loyal streak, a sense of humor, and a non-aggressive attitude. Not a wimpy dog just one that wouldn't use any excuse to use it's teeth, not with those beautiful granddaughters to consider! We found all that and more in the Mini Aussie Our thirty acre ranch/farm is home for our Spotted Saddle Horses, and sits right in the middle of the best horseback riding in the southeastern part of the United States. We are rated 5th in the nation for great horseback riding. Our land is wooded with two creeks, pastures of rolling hills, wildlife that comes right up to the house, deer, turkey, and coyotes are seen on a regular basis around here. The dogs absolutely love this place, it's a doggie park! Each day they get out of the kennels and get to romp in the woods and swim in their favorite swimming hole! It's a dog's life in the Shawnee. A good romp, a swim and getting to give chase to the horses, what more could an Aussie ask for? My husband John is my right hand man, my general contractor who is in the process of building me a brand new building to house all the dogs. We will have a 24 x 40 foot building with both inside sleeping areas, covered outside runs, 3 fenced in play ground areas, one is 60 x 100 feet, this will be where the agility course will be set up! The inside will be heated, have a bathing and grooming area, storage cupboards, lots of windows for light and a good exhaust system. All of our whelping is done in a separate area in our garage, it's heated for the winter and cooled for the summer and handy for those midnight runs to go check on the mother's in waiting! We only raise one breed of dog here…Miniature Australian Shepherds. Each animal has been carefully selected for good conformation, a stable personality, and a sound genetic background. We screen each Miniature Australian Shepherd before bringing it into our breeding program. All of our breeding stock has been Penn HIP and scored according to how good it’s hips measure. We only use those dogs with high enough scores to breed. They are CERF tested to make sure there are no eye problems. We have several stud dogs of breeding age, we strive to match each female with the best suitable stud dog to assure good conformation, sound mental attitude, and of course the best color combinations! We tend to get lots of beautiful Blue Merle puppies with those striking blue eyes. We are experienced at shipping puppies and will ship at the buyers expense. Our babies have been shipped far and wide...as far as St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands to the far north of Alaska! We will accept a personal check for your deposit but final payment must be a Cashier's Check. If you plan to pick up your puppy at Double R Aussies Cash works perfectly!
